Unsolicited Inquiry Letter

An ‘Unsolicited Inquiry Letter’ is a type of business letter written to inquire about something such as the availability of job positions in a particular company. The letter is called an unsolicited inquiry letter because it is written by you merely for the sake of inquiry, even the company has not advertised anything of that sort in any newspaper.  Since this is a business letter, it has to be written carefully and should be structured in three parts, comprising of an introduction, the main body, and a conclusion.

In the introduction, politely state the reason for writing the letter. Mention the purpose and nature of the inquiry as well. Adjust your tone according to the person you are writing the letter to. In the following paragraphs, which will constitute your main body, explain more about your inquiry. You should be specific about your inquiry. In the concluding paragraphs, thank the recipient for their time.

Subject: Unsolicited application letter

Dear Ma’am,

I hope this letter finds you in the best of health. I am Sidharth Sudheer, an aspiring author, and blogger, who has recently moved into the city. This letter is an unsolicited inquiry letter, and I would like to know more about the publishing industry in New Delhi, specifically about how to approach a publisher and the precautions one has to take while publishing a book.

As you might have already guessed, I am an amateur writer, and I have no previous experience in publishing, except for having published a few of my poems in a regional paper (The ‘Malayala Manorama’ had previously published 5 of my poems). However, ever since I was a child, it has been my dream to publish a book of my own. I have been researching and writing a book for the past ten years. However, I have not been able to get it published so far.

If it is all right with you, Ma’am, I would like to set up a meeting with you, so that I can get a better idea of the whole scenario in Delhi. I am attaching my resume along with this mail so that you can peruse it at your will. For any further clarification about my current position, please do feel free to contact me at 5739834953784.

Thanking You

Yours sincerely,

Sidharth Sudheer.
