Sympathy Letter For Loss Of Pet, Sample & Format

Introduction

Contrary to popular belief, pets are more than just animals. They are so much more than that. They are our friends, companions, confidants and sometimes, our first love. The emotional bond that is shared with them only strengthens over time. Though they are unable to talk to us, they comfort us by just being there and hearing us out.  Be it the sweet chirping of birds, the majesty of a cat or the sweet embrace of a dog, the special bond shared with our pets can not be put into words.

All this is precisely why the loss of a pet can lead to much emotional pain. Their presence is irreplaceable. Therefore, it is of great importance to remember that while you are writing a sympathy letter to someone, you must never imply or say directly that the loss is not as severe as that of family or friends as it is just that of a pet. Make sure that your tone is informal and be understanding. Let them know you are there for them and will do whatever it takes to help them overcome and even deal with the grief.

Subject: Sympathy Letter

Dear Susan,

I heard about the Floofy’s untimely demise. I was so shocked to hear about it. I wanted to come over as soon as I heard, but I thought it would be better to write to you first. Floofy really was an angel! Remember how he would just come and sit with us while we talked for hours on your veranda? He used to make a funny sound out of happiness whenever I scratched his ears for him. Going for our evening walks with him was always such fun! He would chase around all the rats and jump in puddles and spill the dirty water on us.

I know growing up as an only child was hard for you and that he was your brother, your best friend. At the end of a rough day, he was the only one there to hear you out. And of course, make you laugh by bringing his sleeping blanket to you. Oh, how aunty hated having him on the bed! But I’m sure it is really hard for aunty too to deal with the loss.

I just want you to know that I’m there for you in whichever way you need me. Tomorrow after you bury Floofy, I’ll come over. We can lie in bed all day and watch his puppy videos. I’ll also bring over your favorite pizza.

I love you, Susan. I promise you that I stand by your side every step of the way and I am sure we can get through this together. Take care.

With love,

Tina Sahil
