Reference Letter from Professor, Sample & Format

Introduction

A ‘Reference letter from a professor’ is a letter written by a professor who is an academician at a higher educational institution, with regards to one of his students’ character and academic standing. A professor is an eligible authority to provide a good reference for his or her student who may need a letter of recommendation for a job or further studies. The letter is highly important since it can literally make or break the candidate’s career. There are several things that has to be noted while writing a reference letter.

One of them is to structure the letter correctly. It is better to organise it into three paragraphs, namely an introduction, the main body and the conclusion. In the introduction, introduce the student. Then go on to describe the student’s achievements. You could mention things like his work ethics, his punctuality and so on. Conclude by recommending him further for the job or further studies. Go through our sample letter for a better idea.

Dr.

Charles Kennedy,

Senior Professor,

Engineering Faculty,

The University of Texas,

1219 Valley Lane,
Austin, TX 78701.

To Whom so ever It May Concern

I am writing this to provide a fair reference for Ms. Daisy White, who was a former student of the Engineering Department of Texas University. Ms. White belonged to the class of 2009. She graduated in the 98 percentile and was chosen to be the graduation valedictorian.

Ms. White is an aspiring young woman with admirable talent; be it social or academic. She is very creative in her engineering designs and this led to the design and manufacturing of the single solar mobile unit of the University that is not only green but runs by programmed control. She was an engaging student to teach and was especially noted for her enthusiasm towards anything she did, both co-curricular and academic. She has an impressive portfolio of co-curricula besides a high academic achievement. Speaking of her co-curricular achievements, she was the Secretary for Student Affairs in the academic year 2010-2011, for which she was elected by the students of the university. She is set for success in life with her potential of ideas and gifts.

I believe she will pave the way for the Engineering future with her astounding knowledge of electronics and practical skills. I wish her all the best in her future undertakings. For further information, please feel free to contact me at 4253934583.

Thanking You

Yours sincerely,

Dr. Charles Kennedy

Senior Professor
