Property Tax Appeal Letter
A Property Tax Appeal Letter is written by the owner of a property to the authorities concerned to make satisfactory tax concessions. Usually, the tax applied on the property is calculated by multiplying the assessed value of the property by the local tax rate, which may differ as per the location of the property. The assessment of the real estate as well as the local government is very important to assign a value to the property. Therefore, the letter of appeal must be fabricated finely.
This type of letter may be written for several reasons, such as, when the owner finds certain discrepancies in the assessment or when he/she feels that the tax applied is not correct since mistakes can be made by anyone. In a Property Tax Appeal Letter, the writer should clearly state the reason because of which the appeal is being made. It is also important to include the correct details of the property in the letter. In the case of reporting discrepancies in the assessment of the value of the property, the tone should be kept polite.

Subject: Discrepancies in Property Tax
Dear Mr. Shannon William,
I am writing this letter in response to the property tax bill sent by your bank to me, dated April 17, 2009, which I received on April on April 19, 2017. However, there are certain inconsistencies in the invoice. Hence, I kindly request you to consider the discrepancies in the assessment of the value of my property, 4547 Mosswood Park, Oakland, ME 87409.
After careful examination of the records of my property, I found that there have been certain miscalculations in determining the tax. The house accounts 1,800 sq. feet of the living area, however, the bill states it to be 2,100 sq. feet. Due to the faulty calculations, the property has been over assessed and, hence, the tax levied on my property is unreasonably high. In the previous two bills, the details of my house have been mentioned correctly. Therefore, I am enclosing with the letter a copy of the documents of my property and a copy of the two previous bills in support of my argument. For any questions or doubts, I can be reached at my landline number 34256754.
Your considerate attention is crucial in this matter. I appeal to you to provide me with the assessment of tax on my property at the earliest so that I can clear the settlement as soon as possible.
