Letter of Recommendation for Scholarship

Letter of Recommendation for Scholarship

Introduction:

Scholarships are difficult to attain given some entrants and the difficult and stringent criteria for selection and all the subsequent formalities. As such, the applicants have to try gaining an edge over others whichever way they can. One of the more common practices is getting a Letter of Recommendation from a professor or mentor, which conveys the qualities of the candidate that makes them an ideal candidate for the scholarship.

A Letter of Recommendation for a Scholarship is usually written by someone who knows the scholarship applicant well to write a commendable letter of reference on behalf of the student. The right recommender is important as what is stated in the recommendation letter will lend weight to the consideration of scholarship approval. The letter aims to convince the jury or committee; hence it must mention the writer’s personal experience while teaching or working with the candidate and the outstanding qualities which make him/her stand out.

Subject: Scholarship Recommendation Letter

Dear Sir/Madam,

It is my delight to recommend the top student in the Social Sciences department, Mr. Matthew Halls for the university’s prestigious Chancellor Scholarship for the year 2010.

Mr. Halls has been on Dean’s list in his four semesters of studies at the University. His GPA score is 3.99, which ranks among the best in his year and he is an eloquent speaker as well as a creative character. Despite his heavy academic obligations, Mr. Halls has made time to indulge in many plays and dramas, both in the Arts & Drama Society and the local Community Drama Society.

He is also an active participant in various University sports and extra-curricular activities with a broad skillset, excelling at every activity that he takes upon. My personal experience working with him on a department project was very fulfilling, and he exudes knowledge and wisdom, far beyond his years.

Hence, with his outstanding achievements in all walks of the student life, it is appropriate to consider Mr. Halls as this year’s recipient of the university’s prestigious Chancellor Scholarship. I assure you that you won’t find a more worthy candidate than him.

Thank you for your kind consideration on Mr. Matthew Halls.

Respectfully yours,

David Warlock

Professor

Social Sciences Department
