Grievance Appeal Letter
A grievance appeal letter is written by an employee (or a person of lower stature) to his or her employer (usually the person of higher authority) to file an appeal regarding his or her grievance. The nature of the grievance can vary from anything as small as dissatisfaction with a co-worker to a discrepancy with the salary. The letter functions primarily as an appeal, and it is thus a highly formal letter.
Structure the letter such that it comprises of three parts: an introduction, the main body, and a conclusion. In the introduction part of your letter, state the reason for writing the letter. In the following paragraphs, explicate the nature of your grievances, such as what it is, for how long it’s been bothering you and the like. Make the letter precise and brief. Do not make the letter sound merely as a complaint. Be polite and open in your letter. Conclude the letter by thanking the person for their time.
The following is a sample of a grievance appeal letter
Subject: Grievance Appeal
I hope this letter finds you in the best of health.
The intent of my letter is to file an appeal for my grievance, regarding the state of affairs in this company. It is with regret that I inform you that I have received only half of my stipulated salary of Rs 70,000 per month. Despite having expressed my grievances before in both public discussions as well as private letters, no action has been taken so far to rectify this.
It is with even more sadness that I think of my fellow colleagues; some of them haven’t even received their salary for the past two months. As dedicated workers of this company, we work extremely hard for the company’s growth, and we are loyal employees. We have gone through more than our fair share of ups and downs in this company. However, a pay-cut at this stage is incredibly saddening and frightening as well. It is with a heavy heart that I appeal my grievance against this company.
I would be more than happy to sit down with you and explain everything in person.
