Employee Reference Letter, Sample & Format

Introduction

An ‘Employee Reference’ letter is a letter written to give a company an understanding of the character of a new employee coming into the company. It could be written by the former employer who has been satisfied with the employee’s work performance, but due to unforeseen circumstances, the employee has to leave the organisation. The letter is extremely important because it is based on this that the new company forms an opinion on the employee. Hence it is important to write the letter carefully.

It is better to structure the letter into three paragraphs, namely an introduction, the main body and a conclusion. The introduction introduces the content of the letter. The main body of the letter would contain details on the employee, such as his positives. The conclusion would wrap up the letter. While the reference letter is usually positive, it can also be negative. It depends upon the performance of the employee.
