Employee Reference Letter
An ‘Employee Reference’ letter is a letter written to give a company an understanding of the character of a new employee coming into the company. It could be written by the former employer who has been satisfied with the employee’s work performance, but due to unforeseen circumstances, the employee has to leave the organisation. The letter is extremely important because it is based on this that the new company forms an opinion on the employee. Hence it is important to write the letter carefully.
It is better to structure the letter into three paragraphs, namely an introduction, the main body and a conclusion. The introduction introduces the content of the letter. The main body of the letter would contain details on the employee, such as his positives. The conclusion would wrap up the letter. While the reference letter is usually positive, it can also be negative. It depends upon the performance of the employee.
The following is a sample of an employee reference letter.

Subject: Reference Letter for Clive Johnson.
To Whom so ever It May Concern
Greetings from Value Express Marketing Enterprise!
I am writing to confirm that Mr Clive Johnson was an excellent employee at Value Express Marketing Enterprise from January 2009 till June 2016. Mr Johnson was a hard working employee who met his sales quota every month. In fact, throughout his employment here, he had been named the employee of the year annually.
He was also a responsible worker who used his time outside the office ethically and always reported his whereabouts. He understood the products well and marketed them with enthusiasm and accuracy. He is well respected by his clients and peers. It is with regret that Mr Clive Johnson is leaving Value Express to further his dreams and ambitions. In fact, he had been the top scorer on our annual performance appraisals as well. He had been our best performing worker. His absence will be truly a loss for us.
We wish him only the best in his future undertakings, and we are sure he will be an asset to your esteemed company as well.
For your benefit, we are attaching all five reports of his performance appraisals. In the case of any further information, please do reach out to us on 4205284335 or on our email id: firstname.lastname@example.org.
